Spain - Malaga
Established in 1980 by Luis Carrión and Renate Urban, Escuela De Idiomas Nerja was born from a shared dream to create a hub for teaching Spanish and promoting Spain's cultural and historical heritage. The founders successfully developed Spanish programs suitable for learners of all ages. Beyond language classes, the school emphasizes cultural, social, and athletic activities. It also arranges guided excursions and offers practical services including homestays, student housing, and airport transfers. Each year, around 1,200 students from over 40 countries study here, taught by native-speaking language experts who hold university degrees in linguistics and a master's in Spanish language teaching.
Escuela De Idiomas Nerja is based in the village of Nerja, located in southern Spain’s Costa del Sol region. It is close to the beautiful Costa Tropical beaches, popular with tourists and water sports lovers. The school is also just a 45-minute drive from Málaga, an ancient city founded roughly 2,770 years ago and Spain’s most important port after Barcelona. Málaga is home to Pablo Ruiz Picasso International Airport, where your journey begins. On arrival, you can take a private car directly to your accommodation or catch a central bus from Málaga to Nerja. Nerja itself is a charming coastal town packed with attractions, enjoying a mild subtropical climate where temperatures average around 20°C year-round.
The school creates an inspiring learning environment that encourages students to embrace knowledge enthusiastically. It equips learners with key skills to succeed, helping them reach their academic and career goals.
Since 1998, Escuela De Idiomas Nerja has been accredited by the International Association of Language Centres (IALC). It has also been nominated for 14 awards from Study Travel Magazine, recognized as one of the world’s top language school for teaching Spanish as a second language.
Nerja lies on the Costa del Sol, just an hour east of Málaga. It has retained its authentic Andalusian charm, with a beautifully preserved old town set against mountains and stunning coastline. The climate is nearly perfect, with average annual temperatures of 20°C. Local industries include agriculture, fishing, and tourism. The town’s name comes from the Arabic "Narixa," meaning "abundant natural spring." With a population of around 20,000, Nerja is large enough to offer vibrancy but small enough to feel welcoming. Its friendly residents enjoy a lively community life, celebrating festivals like Carnival and Holy Week. And thanks to its proximity to major cities such as Málaga, Granada, Seville, and Córdoba, Nerja is an ideal destination to learn both the Spanish language and its rich culture.
