Founded by the Romans in 138 BC, Valencia is one of Spain's oldest cities, shaped by many civilizations that left their mark. Its layered history is told through three walls: Roman, Christian, and Islamic. During the Islamic period (8th–13th centuries), the city flourished, and in 1020 AD, a sophisticated defensive wall was built to protect its people. Literally atop that very wall stands International House Valencia. The Islamic wall originally had seven gates and featured a 14-meter-high tower – still standing today within the institute's building, rising through the classrooms and offering a breathtaking connection to the past.
